I am completely unprepared.

My 10K is on Sunday morning and packet pickup is tomorrow. I’m feeling so unprepared and undertrained. The fact that we got rear ended yesterday in a minor car accident doesn’t help because I woke up this morning with a very stiff and sore neck. I honestly feel like I am going to simply will my way through 6 miles to make it to the ribs and beer at the end. I now know that 6 miles isn’t much in the grand scheme of distance running, but I’ve never quite ran that far, and I’m not sure how my knee is going to hold up.

I have a laundry list of regrets. Not enough running. Poor diet. Not enough nutrition or hydration. No discipline. I will take this as a learning lesson and keep chugging along and training for the Disney Princess 10k and half marathon with a renewed sense of purpose.

But first, I’ll slog through Sunday’s 10K and enjoy my ribs and beer.

7 Miles. At A Themepark!

Did you ever wonder how much you actually walk during a day at a Theme Park? Well, I finally took my running watch and wanted to find out. While it may not be exact, I think it’s pretty darn close. The answer is: 7 miles! And the pace wasn’t too bad either, if I do say so myself. I had no idea it would be that much, I thought around 4-5 miles, but nope. And we didn’t walk that much since we had the babies. If we’d been just adults, we’d have probably walked a lot more.

My hubs and I got a chance to go to Universal Studios Orlando on Friday, and it was awesome.

We got to unwind, and a much needed break, as well as some time with some old friends who came with us. Let me tell you, nothing more stressful than a 4 hour drive with 2 infants who don’t like car seats.

I got to babywear Mila around most of the park, got tons of comments about my ring sling, and it was awesome to share with people that I made it 🙂 I look forward to making more in the future.

I also wore my DIY headband, LOL and my running shoes with skinny jeans, so I was in full on “mom/comfort” mode.

We have the 10K this Sunday, and I need to get back into “training” mode.. No more eating junk this week!

I’m BACK! Friday and Saturday’s Run/Walks

Who’s back?! I’m back! I have done 2 very short runs the last few days and I feel FANTASTIC. My last run was Saturday morning, and these are my stats.

I’ve been doing run/walk intervals. Friday I did 1 minute walk, 1 minute run for 1 mile, and Saturday I did 2 minute run 1 minute walk. I’m super pleased with how I feel. My Asics felt great, I’m so happy about that.

I rested yesterday and today since I had some soreness in my shin muscles, but I’ll be back at it tomorrow.

Other Hobbies: Sewing a Softie Lamb

Even though I haven’t been running, I have kept myself busy with other hobbies. I recently scored a sewing machine on Craigslist for $20 (closer to $50 once I ordered the pedal and manual) and was super excited to try it out and do some projects.

She’s from the 80’s, but all metal and good construction as far as I’ve read so hopefully she lasts me through many a sewing project.

The first thing I tackled was a little stuffed lamb for my cutie pie baby. I found an adorable pattern on Dolls and Daydreams, and couldn’t wait to make it. I am a little nutso and I have to do things right when they pop into my head, so we are lucky to live in an area where Joann Fabrics is literally across the street. We have a Michaels, and a Hobby Lobby not too far too, so getting crafting supplies is always fun. Most of the time I drag my husband too, which he loves (not).

Note to self when learning to use the rotary cutter: Do not touch the blade. Very sharp. I cut myself immediately.

I couldn’t wait to add a face to it to give it to the baby, and she doesn’t seem to mind that it doesn’t have a face yet. I just love her!

Still recovering.

A feverish teething baby and recovering from a knee injury makes for no running yet. I guess it’s a good thing since I should probably recover as long as possible, but I am really getting antsy to get back to training. Our 10K is coming up soon and I want to be in much better shape than I’m in right now.

I plan to get back on it by this weekend at the latest. It’s hard because we’re a 1 car family right now, so there are usually errands to run when Mike gets home, and lately he’s been working the night shift at one of his jobs, which means there’s no car around the house from 3-11pm. Not easy to adjust to, but it should be short term. Once we move, it should be much easier to walk around to places close by.

Here’s my sad baby yesterday, where she slept most of the day and I spent most of the day being mommy and carrying her.

FINALLY! Pain Free.

Over the weekend, I had to buy several things. A knee brace and a pilates ball, with resistance bands. I am using the bands and ball to strengthen my legs and hips and the brace was recommended by my doctor. The doctor didn’t think I’ve done any serious damage other than a strain from overuse, but she did order an x-ray (which I haven’t scheduled yet) and 800 mg ibuprofen (which I won’t be taking). She also recommended a brace, which I did find at Ross for $16.99 (score) along with physical therapy.

Today was the first day I was mostly pain free, 2 weeks later. I’ve been doing various leg exercises to try and get stronger so this doesn’t happen in the future. I think I’ll be able to walk a little tomorrow, and I’m SUPER excited!

Tired of Resting.

Another day of soreness and no running, but some baby carrying and walking. I’ve got a doctor’s appointment tomorrow at 3pm where hopefully she’ll rule out any serious damage. I’ll be glad if the results are just rest. I’ve spent more of today researching my pain location and possible injuries, and I’ve come up with something related to my MCL. I hope it’s not bad. I guess we’ll find out. I am not a big fan of the doctor because they charge just to tell you something needs rest most of the time, but I want to make sure I didn’t break anything since we’ve got some serious training coming up soon. All I know is I’m super anxious to get back to running, I REALLY really miss it.

Rest Day #2

I’m going antsy resting, but my knee does feel like it’s getting better. Today I’ve spent 20 minutes in a hot Epsom Salt soak and applying Arnica gel for the inflammation, and I’m not in agony every time I step on my left knee. The baby is giving be a break from carrying her all day, praise God.. And she’s seems to be staying busy with all her toys.

The extent of my walking today will be to the mailbox and back, and hopefully with yet another day’s rest, I’ll be on the road to recuperation.

Still injured.

A quick Google of knee pain from running brought up pretty much 2 extreme results… 1. It’s no big deal, it’s common among runners, especially those who get excited and over ambitious, like me. 2. This is serious that needs to be seen by a doctor before it takes me months to heal and lots of rehab.

Since we don’t have great health insurance, I’m somewhere in the middle of thinking this will pass quickly and hoping for the best. Today my left knee was still swollen, so I applied arnica ointment and ice. I don’t want to take anything because I’m still nursing our 8 month old baby and I just don’t want to introduce anything else into my body

No 5.5 Mile Run. Injured.

So… Today should have been a 5.5 Mile Run. Our long run which I was really looking forward to. My mom even offered to watch the baby for us and about 5 steps into a light jog, I knew 5.5 miles was not happening.

I was so upset walking back home but Mike thinks this is a good thing. I have a really sore knee, the inside of my shin bone under my kneecap is very very sore.  I can still put weight on it but the actual walking around is what hurts. It’s also a little swollen. See photo.

I have a feeling it’s tendinitis and I pray it’s something that will go away after a few days rest.  I’m really upset… I was in such a good groove. I wanted to walk the 5 miles today but Mike talked some sense into me and I really don’t want to injure myself further or take longer to heal. In the meantime I will be doing some core strength workouts and leg workouts since I read knee injuries can be caused by weak leg and hip muscles. 

Until then,  I’ll keep sulking.
